I have never written a negative review, but I want to warn the community about this business. The owner Jeff Spivak was an acquaintance of mine, and I had been bringing my cars to him for several years. Once or twice, I had doubts about his professional standards because I often arrived with problem X and then ended up paying to fix X and a new problem Y that had been discovered. But Jeff was an acquaintance, and I trusted him as such. Several months ago, I came in with a broken heater core; it had leaked into my interior. Replacing the core, Jeff's mechanic broke the ventilation flap that controls the hot and cold air. That made the car useless since one could not defrost the windshield. Then he asked for more money to fix the part he had broken, and in the end it cost me around $1100 and he kept my car for two weeks. After a month or so the AC ran out of freon! Then I took the car to another dealer, who showed me the broken parts that Jeff's mechanic had put back in. The AC had lost its freon because the gaskets had not been sealed properly. In all, I had to spend around $1400 at two shops to get a heater core replaced! I would not be writing this negative review if I did not feel that Jeff Spivak had taken advantage of me, an acquaintance he had known for several years. If you can't trust a mechanic who seems to be a friend, then that's a huge red flag.

Excellent work, very good service-I will take my FJ Cruiser back for service. They are not cheap, but less expensive than the dealership. And the service is far superior. I felt like Jeff gave me the real deal, listened to what I wanted done, and did good work. Straight up quality automotive work. You might get cheaper somewhere, but you would be dipping into the underworld of motor vehicle repair where you can't be sure of you what you are getting. They gave me a ride to my work and picked me up at the end of the day. They made it easy and feel good about the work. That is worth paying for. It''s worth reading the hidden or "not recommended" reviews for these guys. Most of them are excellent, and a few seem like they are written by competitors or someone out to get them. My partner has been taking her minivan to them for ever and they have done a a great job with it.

Great place to have your vehicle serviced!!!

Sorry to see the negative reviews, but that was not my experience, Jeff was courteous, helpful and got me out of a tight spot when my starter failed on my 2005 Honda Element on a trip from San Diego to S.F. We had spent the night on the beach at Oceano Dunes and the car had to be towed to the shop. They diagnosed the problem and took care of it in the time they said they would and Jeff gave me and my family a ride to a local hotel to stay the night. Great work guys, thanks a lot.

Jeff, the owner of Continental Motor Works, did a pre-purchase inspection of a used Volvo wagon we were looking at and the detailed report he provided saved us nearly $2600 in repairs that the dealer had to do before we completed the transaction. Needless to say, they've been our mechanics ever since! Always a pleasant experience... and the popcorn machine is a BIG hit with our kids!

These guys do good work and take care of there customers. Sometimes they are a tad more expenseive. One time my car was having minor issues. He found the problem free of charge because I was a loyal customer. Jeff

Warning, do not go here! Total rip off artists, Jeff with his small town charm, and Prozac smile ripped us off big time. We had just moved to town from back east, one of our cars wasn't running right, when it came off the transport truck. Continental motorworks charged us over $2000. For what was in reality a major tuneup, fluid changes, no parts! We had the same work done on our other car at another repair shop for $600. Like the other reviews, the car still didn't run right, and we ended up having to buy a new car.

I took my car to Continental MotorWorks Auto Repair because of the large number of positive reviews they have received on Google, so I was extremely disappointed when their level of service definitely did not live up to their previous reputation. I brought my car in after it overheated, and they charged me a diagnostic fee of $89.10 even though they were not able to diagnose or repair the problem. I was under the impression that the diagnostic fee I was charged would at least be taken out of any further work done on the car; however, Continental MotorWorks Auto Repair then refused to work on the car since we purchased the parts, and they're now claiming that the diagnostic fee wouldn't have come out of the repair costs anyway(!?) I have never taken my car to a company that didn't apply a diagnostic fee to any work that needed to be done. Since this is a standard industry practice, I would have expected them to be clear if this was not their policy, since this would constitute a material fact that would have resulted in my deciding to take my car elsewhere had I known. I also asked for a refund of the diagnostic gee, which they declined. What a disappointment - I won't be taking my car there again.

These guys play the "bait-and-switch" game VERY well. Had a special that included oil change and tire rotation- tried to convince us we needed our transmission fluid changed, charged us $100 just to look at why the heater wasn't working right and wanted to charge close to $300 to fix it. Went somewhere else and was only charged $150. Do your self a favor and go to SLO motive or the Tire Store.
